What is Hirudoid forte Ointment and what is it used for?
Mucopolysaccharide polysulfate, the active ingredient in Hirudoid forte Ointment, has an anti-inflammatory effect. It prevents the formation and promotes the regression of superficial blood clots, bruises and swellings and promotes the regeneration of connective tissue.
Hirudoid forte Ointment is used for the local treatment of:
- Blunt injuries with or without bruising
- Inflammation of superficial veins, provided that these cannot be treated by compression

What should you consider before using Hirudoid forte Ointment?
Hirudoid forte Ointment must not be used,
- if you are allergic to mucopolysaccharide polysulfate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6
- on open wounds, inflammations, in purulent processes or infections of the skin
- on the eye and on mucous membranes

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Hirudoid forte Ointment. If the symptoms persist or if the expected success is not achieved by the application, medical advice is required as soon as possible.
When using Hirudoid forte Ointment together with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using, have recently taken / used or intend to take / use any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
The use of the preparation during pregnancy and breast-feeding is possible.
Driving and using machines
So far, no effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery are known.
How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Hirudoid forte Ointment?
To open the tube for the first time, pierce the aluminium foil at the opening with the spike embedded in the tube cap!
A 3 - 5 cm strip of ointment (more if necessary) is applied to the affected area one to several times a day and gently massaged in until it disappears.
The treatment usually lasts up to 10 days for blunt trauma and 1-2 weeks for superficial phlebitis.
In the case of acute phlebitis or thrombosis, which usually manifests itself with reddening of the skin and painful, cord-like hardening of the veins, the ointment must not be massaged in, but only applied in the form of an ointment dressing.
Hirudoid forte Ointment is also suitable for physical treatment methods, such as phonophoresis. If Hirudoid forte Ointment is to be used in conjunction with iontophoresis, the ointment is applied under the cathode.
Use in children and adolescents
There is insufficient experience in children and adolescents. Therefore, use in this age group is not recommended.

What side effects are possible?
How to store Hirudoid forte Ointment?
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
The shelf life after opening the tube is 1 year.
Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. You help to protect the environment.

What Hirudoid forte Ointment contains
- The active ingredient is mucopolysaccharide polysulfate.
100 g of ointment contain:
Mucopolysaccharide polysulfate 0.445 g
(Organo-heparinoid "Luitpold") corresponding to 40,000 E.*
* Units determined by the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). - The other ingredients are: Glyceryl monostearate self-emulsifying, medium-chain triglycerides, myristyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, bentonite, isopropyl alcohol,
phenoxyethanol, imidurea, rosemary oil, purified water.

Hirudoid forte Ointment is a white to light beige oil-in-water ointment with a characteristic odour.
Pack sizes:
Packs of 40 g in aluminium tubes.
Packs of 100 g in aluminium tubes.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
