Caraway (Carum carvi L), also commonly known as cumin or meadow caraway, belongs to the umbellifer (Apiaceae) plant species. It is one of the oldest spices and is mainly found in Asia, Africa and Europe. Caraway fruits were found in excavations of pile dwellings that date back to 3000 BC. Caraway has been used in cooking since the 3rd century AD and is a classic spice in difficult-to-digest foods. Caraway stimulates the activity of the digestive glands and thus has an anti-flatulent and antispasmodic effect. Carum Carvi suppositories are a medical device for indigestion with flatulence and a feeling of fullness, as well as mild cramps in the stomach and intestinal area.
