Wound disinfection

Application

On the skin

How is it used?

What is Octenisept and what is it used for?

Octenisept is a disinfectant for external use and for use on mucous membranes. Octenidine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and certain viruses. The development of resistance of infectious agents (resistance) to octenidine is not to be feared due to the mode of action.

Areas of application:
For repeated, time-limited antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and transitional epithelium before surgical procedures.
In the oral cavity, e.g. before tooth extractions or curettages (surgical removal of tissue), in the urogenital tract, e.g. before hysterectomies (surgical removal of the uterus) and in the rectal area (e.g. before the obliteration of hemorrhoids).

In the vaginal area using an applicator spray head for uncomplicated bacterial infections and infections caused by fungi

For time-limited wound and suture care. For time-limited antiseptic treatment of infected skin wounds.

Octenisept can be used in adults and children without age restrictions. The safety and harmlessness of the application has also been proven in premature babies from the 24th week of pregnancy.

If there is no success after repeated use or if there is even a deterioration, contact your doctor.

To prevent possible tissue damage, the preparation must not be injected under pressure into the tissue or injected. In the case of wound cavities, drainage must be ensured at all times (e.g. drainage, flap).

The use in premature babies with low birth weight should be done with caution. Octenisept can cause severe skin damage in these patients. Remove excess medicine and make sure that the solution does not remain on the skin for longer than necessary (including materials soaked with the solution with direct contact to the patient).

Avoid using Octenisept in the eye. In case of eye contact, rinse the eyes thoroughly with plenty of water immediately.

Use of Octenisept together with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or intend to take any other medicines. Do not use with antiseptics (disinfectants) on a PVP-iodine basis on adjacent skin areas, as this can lead to severe brown to violet discoloration in the border areas.

How to use Octenisept?

Always use the medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist or nurse. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

For use on the (mucous) membrane.

Apply to the areas to be disinfected. In the case of the 50 ml pack size, spray onto the areas to be disinfected. If necessary, rinsing can also be carried out, especially in the area of the oral cavity. Wet the areas to be disinfected completely and leave to act for 1 minute.

When rinsing the oral cavity, rinse intensively with approx. 20 ml Octenisept for 20 seconds and allow an additional exposure time of one minute. Octenisept is used undiluted. The solution is not suitable for ingestion.

For skin disinfection (e.g. before a caesarean section), an exposure time of 2 minutes must be observed for the undiluted preparation.

The exposure time must always be observed and must not be shortened by drying beforehand.

For vaginal use, the spray cap of the applicator should be pressed down ten times in succession, see use of the applicator spray head. After completing vaginal therapy with Octenisept, it is advisable to build up the vaginal flora using vaginal capsules containing lactobacilli in order to promote the restoration of the natural bacterial balance.

Use in children and adolescents
