Viennese tradition meets the zeitgeist - Vegan spreads from Trzesniewski
Hardly anyone can resist the indescribably good rolls.
The recipes for the spreads have been strictly guarded since their invention. We can only reveal one thing: only the best ingredients are used and these, wherever possible, naturally from Austria. For the highest quality, which is ensured daily by a team of around 80 people.
The bread rolls as well as the pure spreads - many of which have been in the range since 1902 according to strictly guarded original recipes - can be tasted and enjoyed on site 12 times in Vienna and once at the airport. Always freshly prepared, ideal for a small hunger and of course also for all kinds of occasions.
About the manufacturer:
In 1902, the first "Trzesniewski" was founded by Franciszek Trzesniewski, a native of Krakow, on the Tiefen Graben in Vienna. Shortly afterwards, the delicatessen moved to Dorotheergasse 1, whose traditional premises are still very popular today.
His practical streak was just one of the many reasons why Franciszek Trzesniewski's rolls became so successful: from the very beginning, he chopped the toppings into spreads, making them easy and safe to eat. In the 1920s, Mr. Trzesniewski had another excellent idea: he divided his breads into small portions. This made handling even easier - without cutlery, without plates, simply to bite off. Quite traditionally, without pretentious decorations and frills - reduced to pure quality and taste.
Gradually, the right beer was added to the roll: the now legendary "Pfiff", the otherwise rather unusual eighth of a litre of beer, which fits perfectly with the rolls in terms of quantity and size. Today, this is obtained from the Ottakringer brewery, which is also typical of Vienna, and is always freshly tapped.
Another special feature also became apparent when you could take a look at the fresh preparation: the spreading of the spreads with forks - to this day the secret behind the special look of the Trzesniewski rolls.
Around 1939, Franciszek's daughter Maria Trzesniewski took over the buffet and continued the success story until 1978. She founded the successful package business with the associated practical take-away boxes, in which the rolls can be transported easily and in any quantity.
18 of the 25 varieties have been unchanged in the range since the beginning. Only in the type of production have there been various attempts over the decades to simplify the handmade "spreading" by machine. From a machine that sprayed on the spreads to conveyor belts from the kitchen, however, only one further development has prevailed: the "roll cutting machine". It ensures that every roll is really the same size. The rest of the preparation has proven to be what it was from the beginning: the finest handwork with attention to detail.
The recipes for the spreads have been strictly guarded since their invention. What is rumoured: One secret seems to lie in the way the eggs are cooked. Some others claim that it is a special secret ingredient that makes the spreads so delicious. Well, we can reveal one thing: only the best ingredients are used and these, wherever possible, naturally from Austria. For the highest quality, which is ensured daily by a team of around 80 people.
This is how Trzesniewski became what it is today: an institution that has shaped the Viennese way of life for generations and brings together the most diverse people under one roof - where students meet workers, court councillors' widows meet managers and Burgtheater actors meet office workers. United on an equal footing by their shared passion for the Viennese roll tradition.
