Their firm, crisp flesh, the intense, sweet taste and the refreshing juiciness as well as their unique variety of varieties - these are the reasons for the popularity of apples. Of the over 20,000 existing apple varieties, around 30 have greater market significance, with new varieties constantly being introduced to the market. The apple varieties differ in picking and eating ripeness, in storage capacity, in taste (from sourly fresh to nutty sweet and spicy), in appearance, juiciness and consistency of the pulp.

The BIO Gala grows in Styria and in some regions in Lower Austria, is particularly suitable for fresh consumption and for the preparation of apple strudel. Due to its size, it also fits well in children's hands and is therefore considered a child-friendly source of vitamins. The crisp, juicy and very sweet pulp creates magnificent aromas on the palate. 

Origin

The original home of the apple is between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Over thousands of years it has spread to all parts of the world.

Tips

The nutrient combination of the apple is ideal as a snack or after exercise, during school breaks or on the go. On the one hand, apples are thirst-quenching because of their water and acid content, on the other hand they contain quickly usable carbohydrates.

Preparation

The apple is the main type of fruit for fresh consumption. It is also often used for preparing salads (fruit, potato, herring, Waldorf salad, etc.), for apple strudel, cakes and tarts of various kinds, for baked apples, raw food platters, etc. The apple is a special culinary treat with fried liver with onions and mashed potatoes. Otherwise, cookbooks offer a wealth of recipes for apples.

About the producers

The VON HERZEN organic farmers have existed in their present form since 2008. By merging Austrian organic farmers, the forces were able to be bundled in a future-oriented manner. Every year, around 25,000 tons of organic fruit are marketed through this producer organization. It serves as a direct link between farmers and consumers. This is unique and offers customers the opportunity to do more for the development of organic farming and our domestic agriculture.

The farms are located in different regions of Styria and Lower Austria. In Styria, the organic apple comes from the East Styrian hilly country, South Styria and West Styria. The Lower Austrian companies cultivate the orchards in the wine and cider quarter.

Storage recommendation

Apples should not be stored in the refrigerator. They stay fresh best in dark, cool storage rooms.
