Schärdinger Gouda 45% L
Schärdinger Gouda is derived from the Dutch Gouda, which has developed over the centuries from a regional specialty to an international standard cheese variety. The durable cheese, originally intended as seafarer's provisions, bears the name of the Dutch city of Gouda, where it was first sold at the city's famous cheese market. From here, the semi-hard cheese conquered the cheese world and was exported from Holland to England as early as the 14th century. Today, Gouda is produced in both loaves and blocks and is ripened either in foil, under paraffin, or in a natural rind. The smell and taste of Gouda depend heavily on its age. Younger specimens taste slightly aromatic to neutral. The older the cheese becomes, the stronger its aroma. Schärdinger Gouda tastes mild and fine, only slightly piquant when aged, and has a smooth but firm texture. It is a young, mild, foil-ripened Gouda. Due to its mild taste, Gouda is universally applicable and equally suitable for cold cuts and cheese platters. This cheese can also be used in a variety of ways in warm dishes, e.g. for gratinating, for cheese soups, or sauces.
About the producer:
The Schärdinger brand now looks back on a tradition of over 100 years. A fact they are proud of! The brand was founded in Upper Austria in 1900.
At the beginning of the 1950s, the name was changed to "Schärdinger OÖ Molkereiverband". Extensive investments were made at the main locations in Schärding, Linz, and Vienna, and Schärdinger began to look for export markets. In the mid-1990s, Berglandmilch was officially founded: The six dairy associations Schärdinger. This turned many small milk-processing cooperatives into one of the most modern food companies in Europe.
Today, the Schärdinger brand under the Berglandmilch umbrella brand is one of the strongest dairies in Central Europe and one of the largest and most innovative food-producing companies in Austria – a fact they are proud of.
