easystop is a medicine for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhoea.

What is easystop and what is it used for?

easystop is a medicine used for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhoea.
easystop is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults over 18 years of age, if the diarrhoea cannot be treated causally. easystop can be taken in addition to causal therapy.

If you do not feel better or even worse after 3 days, contact your doctor.

What should you be aware of before taking easystop?

easystop must not be taken,

  • If you are allergic to racecadotril or any of the
    other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
  • .
  • If you have diarrhoea accompanied by fever and/or bloody or mucous (purulent) stools. The cause of the diarrhoea may then be an invasive bacterial infection or other serious illness that needs to be treated by your doctor.
  • if you are suffering from diarrhoea due to taking antibiotics.
  • if you have experienced swelling of the tongue, face, lips,
    eyelids and subcutaneous cell tissue (angioedema) during therapy with ACE inhibitors (e.g. captopril, enalapril,
    lisinopril, perindopril, ramipril) (see also
    Chapter 4 "What side effects are possible").
Warnings and precautions.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking easystop.
Inform your doctor if:
  • You are suffering from an acute episode of ulcerative colitis,
  • .
  • You suffer from kidney disease or liver dysfunction,
  • .
  • you suffer from prolonged or uncontrollable vomiting,
  • you are lactose intolerant,
  • .
In case of chronic diarrhoea, consult your doctor.
Skin reactions have been reported while taking easystop. In most cases
these skin reactions are mild to moderate. If you observe severe skin reactions, which may initially be accompanied by reddish spots or ring-shaped patches often concentric around the vesicles on the trunk (shooting disc lesions), treatment must be stopped immediately. You must contact your doctor and tell him that you are taking this medicine. Other symptoms could include ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose and genital area and conjunctivitis (red and swollen eyes). Severe rashes are often accompanied by flu-like symptoms.
The rash may progress with extensive blistering or peeling of the skin.

Taking easystop with other medicines.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
Certain medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure, so-called ACE inhibitors (e.g. captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, perindopril, ramipril) are known to cause allergic, painful swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, especially in the facial area (angioedema). This risk could be increased with the simultaneous use of easystop for acute diarrhoea.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Due to a lack of data, it is not recommended to take easystop if you are pregnant, suspect you are pregnant, intend to become pregnant or if you are breast-feeding.

Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and ability to operate machinery.
easystop has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive or use machinery.

easystop contains lactose (a type of sugar).
Please only take easystop after consulting your doctor if you are known to have a sugar intolerance.

How to take the medicine?

How should easystop be taken?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

To take.
The recommended dose is:
Take one capsule 3 times daily, preferably before main meals, unchewed with
a glass of water.
Start therapy on the first day of treatment regardless of the time of day.

Treatment should be continued until the appearance of 2 formed stools. The maximum duration of treatment is 3 days. Long-term treatment with easystop is not recommended.
In elderly patients, dose adjustment is not necessary.

Treatment duration:
Do not take easystop for longer than 3 days without medical advice.

Nutritional advice
To compensate for the loss of fluids caused by diarrhoea, this medicine should be taken with sufficient fluids and salts (electrolytes). The replacement of fluid and salts is best achieved with a so-called rehydration solution to
take (please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure).

If you have taken a larger amount of easystop than you should
If you have taken a larger amount of easystop than you should, please contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

If you have forgotten to take easystop
Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before. Continue at the time of the regular next intake.

What are the possible side effects?

How should easystop be stored?

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

You must not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister pack and outer carton after "Use by:" or "EXP:". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month stated.

No special storage conditions are required for this medicine.

Do not dispose of medicines in waste water. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the
medicine when you stop using it. By doing so, you are helping to protect the environment.

What easystop contains

- The active substance is racecadotril. Each capsule contains 100 mg racecadotril.
- The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, pregelatinised maize starch, magnesium stearate, highly dispersed hydrophobic silicon dioxide, gelatine, yellow iron oxide (E172), titanium dioxide (E171) and purified water.
