Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment is a medicinal product to help heal wounds.

How is it used?

What is Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment and what is it used for?

Bepanthen eye and nose ointment is a medicinal product to support wound healing.
The active substance dexpanthenol is rapidly converted in the cells into pantothenic acid, which is a vitamin of the B complex. Pantothenic acid is indispensable for the build-up and regeneration of skin and mucous membrane.

Bepanthen eye and nose ointment is used for superficial damage to the conjunctiva and cornea of the eyes or the mucous membrane of the nose.

If your symptoms do not improve or even worsen after 3 days (on the eye) or 1 week (on the nose), consult your doctor.

What should you consider before taking it?

What should you be aware of before using Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment?
Bepanthen Eye and Nasal Ointment must not be used
if you are allergic to dexpanthenol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Bepanthen Eye and Nasal Ointment.

If used on the eye, short-term visual impairment is possible.

As a contact lens wearer, you should not use Bepanthen Eye and Nasal Ointment while wearing lenses, as this could lead to smearing of the contact lens as well as incompatibility with the lens material.
Children
Bepanthen eye and nose ointment should only be used on children under 6 years of age on a doctor's prescription.

Use of Bepanthen Eye and Nasal Ointment with other medicines Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
Bepanthen Augen- und Nasensalbe may be used during pregnancy and lactation. Data on reproductive capacity are not available.

Driving and ability to operate machinery
Immediate visual impairment due to streaking is possible after application to the eye. Wait until the impairment of visual performance has passed before participating in road traffic, operating machinery or working without a safe stop.

Bepanthen Augen- und Nasensalbe contains wool wax
Wool wax may cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis)

How should the medicine be taken?

How should Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment be used?

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
-For use on the eye or for nasal use (application to the nose).
- Apply the ointment to the conjunctival sac of the affected eye once or several times a day with the help of the cannula (ointment strand approx. 1 cm long).
If you are still using other eye medicines, e.g. eye drops, you must allow at least five minutes to elapse between the application of Bepanthen eye and nose ointment and the drops.

- Apply the ointment to the nasal mucosa once or several times a day with the help of the cannula (ointment strand approx. 1 cm long). The ointment should be applied to the front of the nose and can be massaged in gently by pressing on the nostrils.

Application in children and adolescents
Bepanthen eye and nose ointment may only be used in children under 6 years of age on a doctor's prescription.
The dosage in children and adolescents does not differ from that in adults.
Adjustment of the dosage in children under 6 years of age is made according to the size of the eyes or nose.

After using Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment on the nose, do not use the same tube on the eye.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and course of the disease. If the symptoms have not improved within 3 days (on the eye) or 1 week (on the nose) after starting treatment, consult your doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

How should Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment be stored?

Do not store above 25°C.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

Do not use this medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the carton/tube after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Shelf life after the first opening of the tube:
Once the tube has been opened, the medicinal product must be discarded after 1 week if used on the eye and after 4 weeks if used on the nose.

After application to the nose, the same tube must not be used again on the eye.
Do not dispose of medicines in sewage or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. By doing so, you will be helping to protect the environment.

What Bepanthen Eye and Nasal Ointment contains

  • The active substance is: dexpanthenol. 1 g ointment contains 50 mg (= 5 %) dexpanthenol.
  • The other ingredients are: rac-(3R)-3-hydroxy-4,4-dimethyloxolan-2-one (DL-pantolactone), adeps lanae (lanolin, wool wax) E 913, thick paraffin, white vaseline, purified water.
Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment contains no preservatives, colourings or fragrances.

What Bepanthen Eye and Nose Ointment looks like and contents of the pack.

This medicinal product is an opaque white, homogeneous eye and nose ointment. The packaging consists of a laminated polyethylene/ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer/aluminium tube with a white polyethylene cap and polyethylene nose applicator.

Pack sizes: 1 x 5g and 2 x 5g.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
