1. WHAT IS BIOFLORINE AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR

In the healthy human intestine there are numerous species of bacteria. They form the biological community of the intestinal flora and contribute to food utilisation and vitamin production.
BIOFLORIN provides a natural inhabitant of the human intestine, which is characterised by its rapid reproduction, its vitality and its resistance to antibiotics and other influences.
BIOFLORIN supports the natural intestinal colonisation in cases of non-specific diarrhoea.
Disease-causing germs are inhibited in their growth and rapidly expelled from the intestine.
Application:
For symptomatic and supportive treatment of acute, uncomplicated diarrhoea in adults and children over 12 years of age, in children from 2 - 12 years of age only on the advice of a doctor.
For disorders of the intestinal flora to support the rebuilding of natural conditions of a disturbed intestinal flora, e.g. after antibacterial therapy (antibiotics or others).

Application:
For symptomatic and supportive therapy in acute, uncomplicated diarrhoea in adults and children over 12 years of age, in children aged 2 - 12 years only on the advice of a doctor.
In case of disorders of the intestinal flora to support the reconstruction of natural conditions of a disturbed intestinal flora, e.g. after antibacterial therapy (antibiotics or others).

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

BIOFLORIN must not be taken,
- if you are allergic to Enterococcus faecium SF68® or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- in disorders of the immune system (immunosuppression, e.g. HIV infection).

In case of autoimmune diseases or existing serious gastrointestinal diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcers, tumours), only use according to medical advice.

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking BIOFLORIN.

If diarrhoea persists for more than 48 hours, medical advice is needed at the earliest, as well as for serious diarrhoea with suspected specific pathogens such as salmonella, shigella or others.
The general measures necessary for diarrhoeal diseases such as sufficient mineral intake (electrolyte replacement), fluid intake and diet should be observed. If oral antibiotics are prescribed at the same time, they should be taken at intervals of 2 hours.
If oral vaccinations are planned, BIOFLORIN should not be taken at the same time.
If the symptoms persist or if the expected success from the application does not occur, a medical consultation is required as soon as possible.

Taking BIOFLORIN with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.

The effect can be reduced by antibiotics. Do not use at the same time as oral vaccination.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

An application is possible. The doctor decides whether the product should be used during pregnancy.

Driving and ability to operate machines
BIOFLORIN has no effect on the ability to drive and operate machines.

BIOFLORIN contains lactose
This medicine contains lactose (milk sugar). Please only take BIOFLORIN after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance.

How should the medicine be taken?

HOW TO TAKE BIOFLORIN?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dosage is:
Adults 1 capsule 3 times daily, children 2 - 12 years 1 capsule 2 times daily.
How to use:
Take with some liquid (water, milk, fruit juice, NOT hot drinks).
If it is difficult to swallow, the capsules can also be opened and the contents mixed with milk, fruit juice or the like and taken, making sure that the liquid is not heated after mixing.

Duration of use:
In general, intake during 7 days is indicated. A longer intake may be appropriate in individual cases after medical advice.

If you have taken a larger amount of BIOFLORIN than you should Poisoning after overdose is not known and is not to be expected even after several times the recommended dose.

Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.

What are the possible side effects?

Do not store above 25°C. At temperatures above 40°C Enterococcus faecium SF68® is rapidly inactivated.
Store the container in the outer carton to protect the contents from light and moisture.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Use within 4 weeks after first opening.

What BIOFLORIN contains

- The active ingredient is:
1 capsule contains at least 75 mio. live Enterococcus faecium SF68® germs in
dried form.

- The other ingredients are:
Lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, highly dispersed silicon dioxide.
Components of the capsule shell: gelatine, black printing ink based on iron oxide (E 172).

What BIOFLORIN looks like and contents of the pack

Colourless, transparent hard capsules with white contents and Bioflorin printed on them.

Brown glass bottles with white plastic cap. Inside the cap there is a notice "Do not ingest". This note refers to the desiccant in the cap.

Packs of 20, 25, 2x25 and 3x20.
