The active substance in Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is clotrimazole, which belongs to the group of imidazoles. Clotrimazole has a broad effect against fungi, i.e. it destroys fungi and inhibits their growth. Clotrimazole is also effective against microorganisms such as dermatophytes, yeasts and moulds.
Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is used to treat infections of the vagina and external female genital organs caused by clotrimazole-susceptible microorganisms. The infections are usually caused by the Candida yeast fungus. Symptoms include itching, burning and discharge.
This medicine is used in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?
What should you be aware of before using Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule ?
Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule must not be used
if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6. other ingredients mentioned in section 6 of this medicine.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule.
Please ask your doctor or pharmacist before using Canesten Clotrimazole
0.5 g Soft Capsule if:
- first occurrence of the infection .
- recurrent infections, at least four infections in the previous year .
- Fever of 38°C or more
- Pain in the abdomen, back pain .
- Foul-smelling discharge
- Nausea
- Vaginal bleeding and/or simultaneous pain in the shoulders
Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, sperm-killing products or other vaginal products during treatment with this medicine.
Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment with Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule to avoid infecting your partner.
The contraceptive properties of latex contraceptives such as condoms and diaphragms may be reduced.
Do not swallow Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule.
Children and adolescents
In adolescents under 16 years of age, treatment with Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule should only be given on a doctor's prescription.
Use of Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule with other medicines Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.
Inform your doctor immediately if you are taking Tacrolimus or Sirolimus (medicines for organ transplant rejection).
It is also possible that the concentration of certain medicines increases with simultaneous treatment with Canesten. However, with a 0.5 g dose, this is unlikely. If you are not sure about using medicines at the same time as Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
For precautionary reasons, clotrimazole should not be used during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
During pregnancy, treatment with the soft capsules must be without the applicator.
For this reason, insert the soft capsule into the vagina with a finger to
avoid injury to the cervix.
Lactation
Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is not recommended during breast-feeding.
As a precaution, it is recommended to discontinue breast-feeding for the duration of treatment. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Driving and ability to operate machinery
Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule has no effect on the ability to drive and use tools or machinery.
How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Canesten clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Insert one soft capsule for vaginal use deep into the vagina as a single dose in the evening.
Treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule is not recommended during menstruation. The treatment must be completed before it begins.
If your partner has symptoms of fungal infections, treat them at the same time.Instructions for use
Before going to bed, insert the soft capsule as deeply as possible into the vagina using the enclosed applicator.
1. Pull the applicator plunger outwards until it stops. Place the soft capsule in the applicator.
2. Place the soft capsule firmly in the applicator holder by twisting it slightly.
3. Insert the applicator with soft capsule deep into the vagina. This is best achieved in the supine position with the legs slightly raised. Push the plunger completely inside the applicator. When removing the applicator, keep the plunger pressed in.
Use of the soft capsule without applicator:
If you are pregnant, insert the soft capsule with your fingers.
How long should you use Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule?
Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsule is used as a single-dose treatment.
If symptoms have not improved significantly within 7 days, see a doctor to confirm the cause of the infection. If symptoms get worse, contact a doctor.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
No special storage conditions are required for this medicinal product.
