Kaloba is a herbal medicinal product made from the pelargonium root (Pelargonii radix) (Capeland geranium) for the symptomatic treatment of acute bronchial infections with cough and mucus production.

What is Kaloba and what is it used for?
Kaloba is a herbal medicinal product made from Pelargonium root (Pelargonii radix) (Capeland Pelargonium) for the symptomatic treatment of acute bronchial infections with cough and mucus production.
This medicine is used in adults, adolescents and children from 1 year of age.
If you do not feel better or even worse after 7 days, consult your doctor.
What should you pay attention to before taking it?
What should you be aware of before taking Kaloba?
Kaloba must not be taken,
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Pelargonium or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- if you have severe liver disease.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Kaloba drops.
If you experience fever, shortness of breath or bloody sputum, or if you notice signs of liver dysfunction (e.g. yellowing of the white skin of the eyes or skin), you must consult a doctor.
Children
The treatment of children under 6 years of age should only be carried out after consultation with a doctor.
Use in children under 1 year of age is not recommended due to lack of data.
Take Kaloba with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.
No interactions are known.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist
for advice before taking this medicine.
To date, there is no or very limited experience (less than 300 pregnancy outcomes) with the use of this medicinal product in pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
For precautionary reasons, the use of Kaloba should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Driving and ability to operate machinery
No studies have been conducted on the effects on driving and ability to operate machinery.
Kaloba contains ethanol
This medicine contains 12% ethanol (alcohol) by volume per maximum single dose (30 drops), i.e. up to 128 mg per maximum single dose (30 drops), corresponding to 3 ml beer or 1 ml wine. There is a health risk for patients suffering from alcoholism. The
alcohol content should be taken into account in pregnant or breastfeeding women as well as in children and patients at increased risk due to liver disease or epilepsy.
How should the medicine be taken?
How to take Kaloba?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and young people over 12 years: | 3 times daily 30 drops |
Children
Children aged over 6 - 11 years: | 3 times daily 20 drops |
Children aged 1 - 5 years: | 3 times daily 10 drops |
Kaloba syrup is also available for use in children from 1 year of age.
Treatment of children under 6 years of age should only be carried out after consultation with
a doctor.
Use in children under 1 year of age is not recommended due to lack of data.
Type of application
For ingestion.
Please take the drops in the morning, at noon and in the evening with some liquid.
Hold the bottle vertically to drip and tap lightly against the bottom of the bottle if necessary.
Duration of application
If you do not feel better or even worse after 7 days, consult your doctor. The duration of treatment should not exceed 3 weeks.
It is recommended to continue the treatment for several days after the symptoms of the disease have subsided in order to avoid a relapse.
Application in children
Use in children under 1 year of age is not recommended due to lack of data.
If you have taken more Kaloba than you should.
No cases of overdose are known.
If you have forgotten to take Kaloba.
Do not take double the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.
If you have any further questions about taking this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
What are the possible side effects?
How should Kaloba be stored?
Do not store above 30° C.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label and carton after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.
After opening the container, do not use the packs for longer than 6 months.
Do not dispose of medicines in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.

What Kaloba contains
The active substance is: Liquid extract of Pelargonium root (Pelargonii radix) (drug extract ratio (DEV) 1 : 8 - 10) (EPs® 7630).
The extractant is ethanol 11% (m/m).
10 g (= 9.73 ml) solution contain: 8.0 g liquid extract of Pelargonium root (Pelargonii radix).
1 ml corresponds to 21 drops.
The other ingredients are: Glycerol 85%, Ethanol 96% (total alcohol content 12% by volume)
What Kaloba looks like and contents of the pack
Kaloba is a brownish solution (oral drops) in packs of 20, 50 and 100 ml. Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
Herbal extracts in drop form may tend to become cloudy after a longer period of time, but this does not affect the quality.
Kaloba is a natural product, so slight variations in colour and taste may occur.
