- Bruises, sprains, strains, effusions.

Application

1. WHAT IS ALGESAL AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Algesal is used:

for the topical treatment of:
- Muscle pain, joint, tendon and nerve pain
- Pain in the shoulder, arm and spine, pain in lumbago (,,lumbago")
- Bruises, sprains, strains, effusions.
The active ingredient diethylamine salicylate is a salt of salicylic acid with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Myrtecain reduces the sensitivity of the skin to pain stimuli and relaxes the muscles.
Algesal is applied externally and works directly at the site of application.

If you do not feel better or even worse after 14 days, consult your doctor.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE AWARE OF BEFORE USING ALGESAL?

Algesal must not be used,
- if you are allergic to diethylamine salicylate, myrtecaine or any of the other ingredients listed in section 6. other ingredients of this medicine.
- if you are allergic to other salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (medicines for rheumatism).
- in eczematous or inflamed skin.
- during breast-feeding.
- in children who have had seizures (febrile convulsions or other seizure disorders) before.
- in infants and young children under 2 years of age (risk of laryngospasm).
- in patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases associated with marked hypersensitivity of the airways. Inhalation of Algesal may cause shortness of breath or trigger an asthma attack.

Warnings and precautions
Instructions for use - Algesal cream

Please talk to your pharmacist before using Algesal.

Particular caution is advised in adult patients with a history of seizures.
For prolonged use over large areas, if coumarin derivatives or oral antidiabetics (oral medicines to lower blood sugar) are taken at the same time, monitoring of prothrombin time (blood clotting test) or blood sugar is recommended.
Do not bring into contact with eyes, mucous membranes or damaged skin areas.

An ointment dressing is not advisable. If you want to apply a protective or supportive dressing, wait until the cream has been absorbed by the skin.

Children and adolescents
Algesal contains lavender flavouring as an excipient with low concentrations of terpene derivatives, such as camphor. Therefore, the use in children under 7 years of age is not recommended and special caution is advised. Terpene derivatives can lower the seizure threshold and, in very high doses, lead to neurological side effects such as seizures in children. The recommended dose must be strictly adhered to, in particular avoid large-area application.Use Algesal with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.

In case of repeated large-area application, interactions with the following medicinal products are possible in rare cases:

  • Certain medicines to inhibit blood clotting (increased risk of bleeding)
  • .
  • Corticoids (gastrointestinal bleeding, water retention)
  • Drugs for oral use to lower blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • .
  • Medicinal products to promote urination and salt excretion
  • .
  • Spironolactone (increased tendency to oedema)
When other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (medicines against rheumatism) are used at the same time, their side effects may be increased.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Use of Algesal during pregnancy, particularly during the last three
months, is to be avoided.
Algesal must not be used during breast-feeding.
Driving ability and ability to operate machinery.
Algesal has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
Algesal contains macrogol glycerol ricinoleate and cetylstearyl alcohol.
Macrogol glycerol ricinoleate may cause skin irritation.
Cetylstearyl alcohol may cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).

How should the medicine be taken?

HOW TO USE ALGESAL?

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

For use on the skin (topical only).
Information for use - Algesal cream

Apply a thin strand of ointment to the painful area up to 3 times a day.
Massage gently until the cream is absorbed by the skin. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
Use in children and adolescents
Algesal must not be used in infants and young children under 2 years of age or in children who have already had seizures (febrile convulsions or other convulsive disorders).
Use in children under 7 years of age is not recommended.
It is essential that the recommended dose is observed, in particular that large-scale application is avoided.

If you have used a larger amount of Algesal than you should
In case of repeated application to large areas (over approx. 20 g daily), side effects such as nausea or irritation of the stomach lining cannot be ruled out with certainty.

Store this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not store above 25°C.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and container. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Shelf life after first opening of the tube: 3 months
Do not dispose of medicinal products in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.

What Algesal contains
- The active ingredients are: Diethylamine salicylate and myrtecaine.
100 g cream contains 10 g diethylamine salicylate and 1 g myrtecaine.

- The other ingredients are: Macrogol glycerol ricinoleate, ethylene glycol monopalmitostearate, glycerol monostearate 40-55, cetyl stearyl alcohol, hydrochloric acid solution, macrogol stearate 300, thin paraffin, macrogol glycerol linoleate, lavender flavouring (contains camphor), purified water.

What Algesal looks like and contents of the pack
Algesal is a uniform, ivory-coloured cream (oil/water emulsion) with a characteristic odour of lavender, non-greasy.
Algesal is available in aluminium tubes with screw cap of 50 g and 100 g.
