The active ingredient in BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% akut Cough Drops, guaifenesin, liquefies the tough bronchial mucus, making it easier to cough up and relieving the irritation caused by coughing. In addition, guaifenesin has an antispasmodic effect on the muscles of the respiratory tract (bronchial muscles).

What are BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops and what are they used for?

The active ingredient guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops contained in BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin liquefies the tough bronchial mucus, making it easier to cough up and relieving the irritation of the cough. In addition, guaifenesin has an antispasmodic effect on the muscles of the respiratory tract (bronchial muscles).

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

What SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops?

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops must not be taken
- if you are allergic to guaifenesin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- if you suffer from severe and chronic gastrointestinal disorders
- during pregnancy and breast-feeding (see also section 2, item "Pregnancy and breast-feeding").
- by children under 6 years of age

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops.
- If hypersensitivity reactions and airway spasms occur, the treatment must be discontinued immediately and a doctor informed.
- In case of respiratory diseases with shortness of breath, fever or bloody sputum, consult a doctor.
- In diseases where mucus is not sufficiently coughed up, such as myasthenia gravis (a disease of the immune system that leads to premature muscle fatigue on exertion).
- In case of impaired kidney function.
- For mild gastrointestinal disorders.
- Laboratory tests: Before urine tests, tell your doctor or laboratory staff that you are taking BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops because the active ingredient guaifenesin may affect the results of some tests.

If the complaints persist or if the expected success from the application does not occur, a medical consultation is required after 5 days at the latest.

Taking BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops together with other medicines
.Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using, have recently taken / used or might take / use any other medicines.

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% akut cough drops may increase the effect of the following medicines:
- Sedatives (so-called sedative medicines)
- Muscle relaxants (medicines to reduce muscle tension, e.g. during anaesthesia during an operation)

If medicines that suppress the urge to cough are taken at the same time, this may hinder the expectoration of mucus from the bronchi. This combination should therefore be avoided.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Because too few clear data are available, BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops must not be taken during pregnancy for precautionary reasons.

As it is not known whether guaifenesin passes into breast milk, breast-feeding women must not take the preparation for safety reasons.

Driving and ability to operate machinery

Caution: this medicinal product may impair the ability to react and drive.

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops contain alcohol (ethanol). Due to this and the possible occurrence of dizziness, the ability to react in road traffic and to operate machinery may be impaired even when used as directed.

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% akut Cough Drops contain alcohol
This medicine contains 56% ethanol (alcohol) by volume, ie. up to 880 mg per dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 - 18 years, corresponding to 22.4 ml of beer or 9.4 ml of wine, or up to 440 mg of ethanol per dose for children aged 6 - 12 years, corresponding to 11.2 ml of beer or 4.7 ml of wine.
There is a health risk for patients suffering from alcoholism. The
alcohol content should be taken into account in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as in children and patients at increased risk due to liver disease or epilepsy.

How should the medicine be taken?

How TO USE BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage
The recommended dose is:

Adults and adolescents from 12 - 18 years:
up to 35 to 70 drops 4 times daily

Children 6 -12 years:
up to 35 drops 4 times daily

Children under 6 years:
Since no experience is available and due to the alcohol content, use in this age group is not recommended.

Type of application:
For ingestion.
Take the drops with water or tea or a piece of sugar.
In addition to taking the medicine, copious fluid intake (e.g. in the form of tea, fruit juice, etc.) is recommended. Hold the vial vertically when counting drops.

Duration of use:
The self-treatment with BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops should be limited to 5 days. If there is still no significant improvement, please talk to your doctor. The maximum duration of treatment is 2 weeks.

If you have taken a larger amount of BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops than you should
If you take very large amounts, nausea or vomiting may occur or.
Muscle weakness. In these cases, please contact a doctor.
Treatment by a doctor is symptomatic.
