Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is a surface-active mouth and throat antiseptic (disinfectant) with a broad spectrum of activity and long-term effect against bacterial pathogens and a somewhat weaker activity against fungal diseases.
Application
1. What is Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free and what is it used for?
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is a surface-active mouth and throat antiseptic (disinfectant) with a broad spectrum of activity and long-term effect against bacterial pathogens and a somewhat weaker activity against fungal diseases.
Rinsing with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free effectively treats bacterial infections in the mouth and throat.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections in the mouth and throat and is indicated:
for the reduction and prevention of bacterial plaque;
for the treatment of simple to purulent inflammation of the gums (gingivitis);
for the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases of the periodontium.
for the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases of the dental bed and their sequelae (periodontopathies);
for tonsillitis, angina, lateral gangrene, pharyngitis;
for injuries and before and after surgical procedures in the mouth and throat area (e.g. before and after tonsil surgery). ChlorhexamedForte alcohol-free supports the healing process;
aphthae (painful inflamed areas of the mucous membrane of the gums, oral cavity or tongue) and inflammations of the mucous membrane of the mouth such as stomatitis (especially under dentures) and glossitis. In the case of severe fungal disease of the oral mucosa (thrush), additional therapy with special antifungal agents may occasionally be necessary;
to eliminate bad breath when normal oral hygiene is not possible and the bad breath is not caused by stomach disease;
for oral hygiene when normal oral hygiene (brushing teeth) is not possible, e.g. in severe general diseases and patients in intensive care.

How is it applied?

Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is a surface-active mouth and throat antiseptic (disinfectant) with a broad spectrum of activity and long-term effect against bacterial pathogens and a somewhat weaker activity against fungal diseases.
Rinsing with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free effectively treats bacterial infections in the mouth and throat.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is used to treat and prevent bacterial infections in the mouth and throat and is indicated
- For the reduction and prevention of bacterial plaque .
- For the treatment of simple to purulent gingivitis .
- For the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases of the periodontium and their sequelae (periodontopathies) .
- for tonsillitis, angina, lateral gangrene, pharyngitis .
- for injuries and before and after surgical procedures in the mouth and throat area (e.g. before and after tonsil operations and dental surgery), as Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free supports the healing process .
- for aphthae (painful inflamed areas of the mucous membrane of the gums, oral cavity or tongue) and inflammations of the oral mucosa such as stomatitis (especially under dentures) and inflammation of the tongue (glossitis). In the case of severe fungal disease of the oral mucosa (thrush), additional therapy with special agents against fungal diseases will occasionally be necessary .
- for the elimination of bad breath when normal oral hygiene is not possible and the bad breath is not caused by a stomach disease .
- for oral hygiene, if normal oral hygiene (tooth brushing) is not possible, e.g. in the case of severe general illnesses and patients in intensive care .
What should you pay attention to before taking it?
What should you pay attention to before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free ?
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free must not be used,
- if you are allergic to chlorhexidine digluconate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- for open wounds and ulcers in the oral cavity as well as for superficial non-bleeding desquamation of the oral mucosa.
- in infants and small children under 2 years of age (risk of laryngospasm).
- in people who cannot control swallowing properly (including children under 6 years of age).
- in patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases associated with marked hypersensitivity of the airways. Inhaling Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free can cause shortness of breath or trigger an asthma attack.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free.
Use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free only in the mouth! Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free must not get into the eyes or ears. In case of accidental contact with the eye, eye area or ear canal, rinse with plenty of water.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free should not be swallowed.
The use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free does not replace brushing your teeth.
Continuous rinsing of the oral cavity with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free without brushing the teeth can promote bleeding gums.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free should not be used without a doctor's recommendation for longer than 3 weeks without interruption, as longer periods of use can cause discolouration of the tongue and teeth and taste disorders.
In special cases, e.g. intensive care for manually disabled persons, preventive treatment can also be carried out over a longer period of time.
You can largely prevent eventual discolouration of teeth, tongue, fillings and dentures: Brush your teeth with a normal toothpaste at least 5 minutes before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water between brushing your teeth and using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free (see "Using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with other medicines"). If necessary, reduce your consumption of strongly colouring foods and drinks, such as tea, coffee or red wine. You can also clean dentures with a commercial denture cleaner before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free. Any discolouration that does occur can be removed over time by intensive brushing. In stubborn cases by professional cleaning by the dentist, for full dentures by a special cleaner.
Stop using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free and tell your doctor if you have pain or irritation in your mouth.
Stop using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free and seek medical help immediately if you develop a rash, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face, or if you have difficulty breathing.
If the symptoms persist or if the expected success does not result from the application, it is essential to consult a doctor.
Use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with other medicines .Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is impaired in its effect by anionic substances, which are usually a component of common toothpastes. Therefore, apply it at least 5 minutes before rinsing the mouth with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free (rinse the mouth thoroughly with water between brushing the teeth and applying Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free).
Use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with food and drinks
Do not eat or drink sugary foods or drinks immediately after using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free.br>Do not eat or drink any sugary foods or drinks immediately after using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free, otherwise they may impair the effect of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
There is insufficient experience or research on the safety of using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free during pregnancy and breast-feeding. You should therefore only use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with special care and after consulting your doctor.
Driving ability and ability to operate machines
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and operate machines.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free contains macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate and sorbitol. Macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate may cause skin irritation.
This medicinal product contains 110 mg sorbitol (E 420)/ml solution. Sorbitol is a source of fructose. Talk to your doctor before taking or receiving this medicine if your doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to some sugars or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) - a rare
congenital condition in which a person cannot break down fructose.
How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free ?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed otherwise for the use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free.
Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free will not work properly! Do not exceed the indicated dosage.
The recommended dose is:
Adults:
Apply the solution twice daily, preferably in the morning and in the evening after meals.
For use in the oral cavity.
For each use, fill the dosage cap to the marking line (10 ml) and rinse in the mouth for 1 minute (pull intensively through the interdental spaces) or gargle in the throat. Spit out afterwards - do not swallow or rinse. In case of inflammation of the oral mucosa caused by dentures, the dentures should be soaked in Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free for 15 to 20 minutes at least twice a day after cleaning. Rinse mouth additionally as described above.
The teeth should be brushed at least 5 minutes before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free and then the oral cavity should be rinsed thoroughly with water (see section 2: "Use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with other medicines").
Particularly when combating inflammatory diseases of the dental bed (periodontal diseases), it is important to clean the teeth thoroughly before each mouth rinse.This ensures better adhesion of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free to the tooth surface and thus effective inhibition of plaque growth.
In intensive care cases or manually handicapped patients where active mouth rinsing is not possible, Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free can be used to remove plaque by brushing.
The solution is ready for use and therefore to be applied undiluted.
Children and adolescents
Children up to 6 years
The use and safety in children under 6 years of age has not been tested so far. Due to the risk of accidental swallowing or the peppermint flavouring content, Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free must not be used in this age group (see section 2: "Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free must not be used")
Children aged 6 years and over
Children aged between 6 and 12 years should only be used on the advice of their doctor. Specific recommendations for dosage in children 6 years and older are not available, the dosage is determined by the doctor.
Adolescents
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the dosage given for adults applies to adolescents aged 12 and over.
Older patients ≥ 65 years
Specific recommendations on dosing in elderly patients are not available. The normal dose recommended for adults also applies to these groups of people unless your doctor recommends otherwise.
Duration of use
The duration of treatment depends on the clinical picture and the clinical course, it is up to three weeks in addition to normal tooth brushing. Consult your doctor if the inflammation has not improved after this time. Prolonged use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free should only be done after consulting your doctor. In special cases, e.g. in the case of disabled persons, preventive treatment can also be carried out over a longer period of time.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is too strong or too weak.
If you have used a larger amount of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free than you should.should
Always use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free exactly as described in this leaflet and do not exceed the stated dosage. If you have used a large amount of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out. Severe symptoms of poisoning are not known. If you experience any discomfort, consult a doctor if necessary.

If you have forgotten to use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free
Do not use twice the amount if you have forgotten to use it before.
Continue treatment according to the dosage instructions.
If you stop using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free no special measures are necessary in this case.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
What are the possible side effects?

Do not store above 25° C. Store in the original packaging to protect the contents from
light.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
You must not use this medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the container after "Use by:". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Do not dispose of medicines in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.

.What Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free contains
- The active ingredient is: Chlorhexidine digluconate.
1 ml contains: 2 mg chlorhexidine digluconate.
A single dose of 10 ml contains 20 mg chlorhexidine digluconate.
- The other ingredients are:
Macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, glycerol, sorbitol (E420), peppermint flavouring, purified water.
How Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free looks and contents of the pack:
Clear or slightly shimmering colourless solution
Packs of 200 ml solution in amber glass bottle with dosage cap.
Packs of 300 or 600 ml solution in brown PET bottle with white PP dosage cap (with 10 ml line marking) and seal.
Not all pack sizes may be placed on the market.
