Octenisept is a disinfectant for external use and for use on mucous membranes.

Application

What is Octenisept and what is it used for?

Octenisept is a disinfectant for external use and for use on mucous membranes. Octenidine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and certain viruses. The development of a resistance of infectious agents (resistance) against octenidine is not to be feared due to the mode of action.

Application:
For repeated, time-limited antiseptic treatment of mucous membrane and transitional epithelium before surgical interventions.
In the oral cavity, e.g. before tooth extractions or curettages (surgical removal of a tissue), in the urogenital tract, e.g. before hysterectomies (surgical removal of the uterus) and in the rectal area (e.g. before sclerosing haemorrhoids).

In the vaginal area by means of applicator spray head for uncomplicated bacterial infections and infections caused by fungi

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Octenisept.
Do not swallow the medicine in large quantities or allow it to enter the bloodstream, e.g.
by accidental injection.

To prevent possible tissue damage, the preparation must not be introduced or injected under pressure into the tissue. In case of wound cavities, drainage must be ensured at all times (e.g. drainage, flap).

The application should be done with caution in premature infants with low birth weight. Octenisept can cause severe skin damage in these patients. Remove excess medicine and ensure that the solution does not remain on the skin (including materials wetted with the solution in direct contact with the patient) for longer than necessary.

Avoid application of Octenisept in the eye. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Use of Octenisept with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines. Do not use with PVP-iodine based antiseptics (disinfectants) on adjacent skin areas as severe brown to purple discolouration may occur in border areas.

How to use Octenisept?

Always use the medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist or nurse. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

For use on (mucous) skin.

Apply to the areas to be disinfected. For package size 50 ml, spray onto the areas to be disinfected. If necessary, rinsing can also be carried out, especially in the area of the oral cavity. Wet the areas to be disinfected completely and leave to act for 1 minute.

When rinsing the oral cavity, rinse intensively with approx. 20 ml Octenisept for 20 seconds and allow an additional exposure time of one minute. Octenisept is used undiluted. The solution is not suitable for ingestion.

For skin disinfection (e.g. before caesarean section), an exposure time of the undiluted preparation of 2 minutes must be observed.

The application time must always be observed and must not be shortened by drying off beforehand.

For vaginal application, press down the spray cap of the applicator ten times in succession, see Application of the applicator spray head. After stopping vaginal therapy with Octenisept, it is recommended to build up the vaginal flora using vaginal capsules containing lactobacilli to promote the restoration of the natural bacterial balance.
