Methods of preparation:

Espresso, screw pot, fully automatic, French press

Variety:

50% Arabica, 50% Robusta

History:

The Maranello contains 50% Robusta and is therefore the strongest blend in terms of caffeine content. But the nasty thing is: it doesn't taste strong. The Maranello is a massive Italian espresso on the portafilter machine, but also works very well in the fully automatic machine and leaves a long, chocolaty aftertaste. Its crema is dense and thick, and its taste is dry and chocolaty. It can also develop its full power in screw jugs and French presses.

Taste description:

Nose: roasted peanuts, cocoa, toasted aromas.

Palate: nut, red wine, salted caramel.

Finish: long and dense.

About the manufacturer:

Our philosophy is to produce, sell and enjoy what we consider to be the best coffees in the world, if possible in organic quality from fairly paid coffee farmers known to us, adequately roasted, i.e. adapted to the respective desired use, without tricks such as adding water or sugar, as fresh as possible.

We only take the right to entice enjoyment. We are happy to tell stories about our coffees, their origin, roasting and proper preparation when we sense that someone shares our enthusiasm for good coffee. For years, we have personally visited many of our coffee farmers and sometimes stood in their way during the harvest.

On 15.10.1987: Günther Alfon founded the coffee roastery Alt Wien in Belvederegasse in Vienna's 4th district as a frahling lover and lone fighter with a 5kg machine from the Austrian company Swadlo. On 6.6.2000 Christian Schrödl took over the roastery and moved it to its current home, Schleifmühlgasse 23.

At the beginning, there was always a love of coffee, both for Mr. Alfon in 1987 and for Christian Schrödl, who initially took over the roastery out of self-interest, as he believed that there was no good, fresh coffee left in Vienna at the time.

In the summer of 2008, Oliver Goetz, a regular customer of the roastery, was invited to join the roastery and help expand the business. He accepted the invitation and has since been steering the fortunes of our house alongside Christian Schrödl.
