About Pöttelsdorfer Edelpute:

In the first few weeks, the animals need the most attention. The temperature has to be changed daily, the animals are vaccinated and, depending on the farm, they are given various herbal remedies and good intestinal bacteria (as in baby food) to help them develop healthy digestion and a good immune system. The farmer walks through the barn several times a day and looks at his turkeys. If he notices animals that are weaker than the others or look sick, they are placed in a fenced-off area where they have time to recover.

Throughout their lives, the turkeys are fed exclusively natural products such as grain mixtures, soya and maize. What was still the case in Austria many years ago and unfortunately still is in some other countries is strictly forbidden here: antibiotics or hormones in the feed. As a result, the turkeys grow more slowly, but healthier, and both the animals and the consumer benefit from this. Of course, the water is always of drinking water quality. The barn is several metres high and has large windows on all sides so that the turkeys get plenty of sunlight. The floor must be covered with several centimetres of a natural material such as straw or wood shavings.

The female animals are fully grown Edelputen at about 16 weeks, the males at 22 weeks.
