What should you consider before taking it?
What should you consider before taking Ce-Limo?
Ce-Limo must not be taken,
- if you are allergic to ascorbic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- if you suffer from kidney stones made of oxalate crystals.
- if you suffer from a disease in which too much iron is stored in the body (such as thalassemia, hemochromatosis, sideroblastic anemia).
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your pharmacist before taking Ce-Limo.
Special care should be taken when taking Ce-Limo,
- if you suffer from the hereditary metabolic disorder of red blood cells known as erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. In isolated cases, taking high doses (4 g daily) has led to a very strong breakdown of red blood cells. You should therefore talk to your doctor about the appropriate dose for you before taking vitamin C and not exceed the recommended dosage.
- if you are prone to kidney stone formation. There is a risk of kidney stone formation when taking high doses of vitamin C. If you suffer from recurrent kidney stone formation, it is recommended that you do not exceed a daily vitamin C intake of 100 to 200 mg.
- in patients with severe or terminal renal insufficiency (dialysis patients). Here, the daily vitamin C intake should not exceed 50 to 100 mg, otherwise there is a risk of excessively high oxalate concentrations in the blood (hyperoxalatemia) and, as a result, the formation of oxalate crystals in the kidneys.
Taking Ce-Limo with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
You should note that after administering gram doses, the ascorbic acid concentration in the urine can increase to such an extent that the measurement of various laboratory values (glucose, uric acid, creatinine, inorganic phosphate, electrolytes) is disrupted. Similarly, after gram doses, there may be false negative results when attempting to detect occult blood in the stool.
In general, chemical detection methods based on color reactions can be impaired.
Therefore, please inform your doctor before any such examinations if you are taking high doses of vitamin C.
The administration of Ce-Limo leads to increased absorption of iron and aluminum from the gastrointestinal tract. This should be taken into account especially in the case of insufficient kidney function, iron replacement therapy and the administration of aluminum-containing medications for stomach hyperacidity.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will decide whether you can use it.
Ce-Limo should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The recommended daily dose of vitamin C during pregnancy is 110 mg/day and during breastfeeding 150 mg/day. Ascorbic acid crosses the placenta and passes into breast milk, so this recommended dosage should not be exceeded.
Driving and operating machinery
Ce-Limo has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Ce-Limo contains sodium and sorbitol
This medicine contains 275 mg sodium (main component of cooking salt/table salt) per effervescent tablet. This corresponds to approx. 13.75% of the maximum daily intake of sodium recommended for an adult with food. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you need Ce-Limo for a longer period of time or more than one effervescent tablet daily, especially if you are on a low-sodium (low-salt) diet.
Please do not take this medicine until you have consulted your doctor if you know that you suffer from a sugar intolerance.
