1. What is Gaviscon Mint and what is it used for?

Gaviscon Mint chewable tablets form a protective barrier that floats on the contents of the stomach. This protective layer prevents gastric acid from rising from the stomach into the oesophagus, thus relieving the burning sensation of heartburn and the feeling of discomfort in the throat and mouth. Heartburn may occur after meals (e.g. after eating fatty or spicy foods) or during pregnancy or in patients with symptoms associated with oesophagitis (e.g. difficulty swallowing and/or painful swallowing, mouth ulcers, vomiting).

Gaviscon Mint Chewable Tablets are used to treat gastrooesophageal reflux symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation and indigestion (due to reflux), e.g. after meals or during pregnancy.They are used, for example, after meals or during pregnancy, or in patients with symptoms associated with oesophagitis.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

What should you be aware of before taking Gaviscon Mint?

Gaviscon Mint must not be taken,
- if you are allergic to sodium alginate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, calcium carbonate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6. other ingredients mentioned in section 6 of this medicine, as breathing difficulties and skin irritation have occurred in rare cases. (See a full list of ingredients under point 6.)

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Gaviscon Mint.
This medicine contains sodium (5.3 mmol per two-tablet dose) and calcium (1.6 mmol per two-tablet dose).
- If you are on a low-salt or low-calcium diet, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.

Please also speak to your doctor regarding these ingredients if you suffer or have suffered from any serious kidney or heart disease, as certain salts may affect these conditions.

If symptoms persist after 7 days, please consult your doctor.

Taking Gaviscon Mint with other medicines
Do not take this medicine within 2 hours of taking other medicines as it may affect the action of some other medicines.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist
for advice before taking this medicine.
You can take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Gaviscon Mint contains aspartame as a source of phenylalanine and may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria.

How to take the medicine?

How to take Gaviscon Mint?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

For oral use. Chew thoroughly before swallowing.

Adults, including elderly patients and children 12 years and over:
If symptoms occur, take 2 to 4 tablets after meals and before bedtime, up to 4 times a day.

Children under 12 years of age:
Gaviscon Mint should only be given on the advice of a doctor.

If you have taken more Gaviscon Mint than you should
If you have taken too many chewable tablets, you may feel bloated. It is unlikely to harm you, but please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

If you forget to take Gaviscon Mint
Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.

What Gaviscon Mint contains

- The active ingredients in each chewable tablet are 250 mg sodium alginate.The active ingredients in each chewable tablet are 250 mg sodium alginate, 133.5 mg sodium hydrogen carbonate and 80 mg calcium carbonate.

- The other ingredients are peppermint flavouring, macrogol 20,000, mannitol (E 421), copovidone, aspartame (E 951), acesulfame potassium (E 950), magnesium stearate.

The chewable tablets do not contain sugar or gluten.

Blister packs of 4, 6, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48 or 64 tablets.

Single dose packs of 8, 12, 16, 18, 20, 22 or 24 tablets are packed in a box.
