If you do not feel better or even worse after 3 days, consult your doctor.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

What should you be aware of before taking Buscopan?
Buscopan must not be taken,

.

• If you are allergic to hyoscine-N-butylbromide or bromides and to any of the other ingredients of this medicinal product listed in section 6,
.
• If you suffer from a certain form of muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis),
.
• If you have been diagnosed with an organically caused narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract,
.
• If you have been diagnosed with a paralytic or mechanical bowel obstruction (ileus).
• if you have a pathological enlargement of the colon.

Warnings and precautions.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Buscopan,

• If you have increased intraocular pressure (tendency to narrow-angle glaucoma),

• if you suffer from chronic constipation,
• if you have difficulty urinating,
• If you suffer from too fast, irregular heartbeat sequence (tachyarrhythmias),
.
• If you have sudden onset, severe, cutting pain,
.
• If your complaints worsen quickly,
• If the pain worsens when touched,
• If your body temperature is elevated,
• if you feel nauseous or have to vomit,
• If your blood pressure is low, you feel weak or have collapsed,
.
• If you notice blood in the stool or unexpected changes in bowel activity (e.g. diarrhoea),
.
• If you have lost weight quickly and unexpectedly,
• If you are currently taking other medicines on doctor's orders for the treatment of
  abdominal pain and cramp.

You must only take Buscopan 10 mg - Coated Tablets after consulting a doctor if any of the above circumstances apply to you.

Taking Buscopan with other medicines.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.

Be sure to ask your doctor for advice before taking Buscopan 10 mg - Coated Tablets if you are taking any of the following medicines at the same time, as the effects of these medicines may be affected by
Buscopan 10 mg - Coated tablets can be intensified:

• Antihistamines (against allergic diseases),
• Amantadine-containing medicines (against Parkinson's disease),
• Drugs containing quinidine or disopyramide (against cardiac arrhythmias),
• Tri- and tetracyclic antidepressants (against depression),
• Other anticholinergics (e.g. tiotropium, ipratropium - against breathing difficulties or atropine-like agents),
• Antipsychotics (against psychoses),
• β-Sympathomimetics (against breathing difficulties).

You should also ask your doctor for advice if you are taking medicines to correct intestinal motility (e.g. medicines containing metoclopramide) at the same time as Buscopan 10 mg Coated Tablets, as this may reduce the effect of both medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

There are no sufficient data for use in pregnant women and on the transfer of the active substance into breast milk. It is therefore advisable to avoid taking Buscopan 10 mg Coated Tablets during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Driving ability and ability to operate machinery.
No studies have been carried out on the effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery. However, if taken correctly, no impairment is to be expected when actively participating in road traffic or operating machinery.

Buscopan contains sucrose.
Please only take Buscopan 10 mg - Coated Tablets after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance.

Buscopan 10 mg - Coated tablets contain 247.1 mg sucrose (cane sugar) in the recommended maximum daily dose (6 coated tablets). If you have a rare inherited metabolic disorder (fructose/galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose or sucrase-isomaltase utilisation disorder), you should not take this medicine. Note for diabetics: Buscopan 10 mg - Coated tablets contain 0.041 g of carbohydrates in one coated tablet, corresponding to 0.0035 bread units (BE).

How should the medicine be taken?

How to take Buscopan?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose for adults, adolescents and children over 6 years is:

Take 1 coated tablet as needed. You can take 1 dragée several times a day, the maximum daily dose should not exceed 6 dragées.

Children over 6 years of age and adolescents should only take Buscopan 10 mg - Dragées after medical advice.

To take.

The coated tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid.

Children under 6 years of age
Buscopan 10 mg - Coated tablets are not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age due to the high content of active substance.

Duration of use
Buscopan 10 mg - Coated Tablets should not be taken for more than 3 days without medical advice.

If you have taken more Buscopan than you should
If you have accidentally taken more than the prescribed dose, please inform a doctor. He will decide on any measures that may be necessary.

Urinary retention, dry mouth, accelerated heartbeat, inhibition of intestinal motility, drowsiness and temporary visual disturbances (disturbance of the eyes' ability to adapt to different distances, glaucoma [triggering of glaucoma]) may occur.

If you forget to take Buscopan
Continue taking it at the next time. Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.

If you stop taking Buscopan
Buscopan 10 mg - Coated Tablets are taken only when needed and should be stopped after the symptoms have subsided.

You must not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the outer carton as "use by" and on the blister strip as "used by". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Do not dispose of medicines in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.
