Cetirizine Genericon is an antihistamine, a medicine used to treat allergies and their effects.

Cetirizine Genericon is used in children from the age of 6 years, adolescents and adults to relieve symptoms of allergic diseases such as:
- chronic hives (urticaria) with symptoms such as itching, quinsy, itching of the skin, and itchiness.Chronic allergic rhinitis, hay fever with symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion, redness or itching of the eyes and tearing. Cetirizine Genericon is a so-called antihistamine, a medicine used to treat allergies and their effects.

In adults and children aged 6 years and over, Cetirizine Genericon 10 mg Film-Coated Tablets is indicated for:
- Relief of nasal and eye symptoms in seasonal and perennial allergicrhinitis.
- Relief of hives (urticaria).

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

Cetirizine Genericon must not be taken:
- if you are allergic to cetirizine dihydrochloride, any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives (closely related active ingredients of other medicines).
- if you have severe kidney disease (severe restriction of kidney function with a creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min).

Warnings and Precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cetirizine Genericon.
- If you take Cetirizine Genericon for a long period of time, it may lead to an increased risk of tooth decay due to dry mouth. Therefore, ensure good oral hygiene.
- If you suffer from impaired kidney function, please ask your doctor for advice, if necessary you will take a lower dose. Your doctor will determine the new dose.
- If you have problems with urination (such as spinal cord problems or problems with the prostate or bladder), please ask your doctor for advice.
- If you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, please ask your doctor for advice.
- If you are to have an allergy test, please ask your doctor if you should stop taking cetirizine for a few days before the test, as this medicine could affect the result of an allergy test.

Children
Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age as the tablets cannot be used to adjust the required dose.

Taking Cetirizine Genericon with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.

Taking Cetirizine Genericon with food, drink and alcoholCetirizine Genericon can be taken independently of meals, preferably in the evening.

No clinically significant interactions have been observed between alcohol (at a blood level of 0.5 parts per thousand (g/l), equivalent to about one glass of wine) and cetirizine at recommended doses. However, no safety data are available when higher doses of cetirizine and alcohol are taken together. Therefore, as with all antihistamines, it is recommended to avoid taking Cetirizine Genericon and alcohol at the same time.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy:
Cetirizine Genericon should be avoided in pregnant women. Accidental ingestion of the medicinal product by pregnant women should not lead to adverse health effects in the foetus. Nevertheless, the medicine should only be taken when necessary and as prescribed by a doctor.

Lactation:
Cetirizine passes into breast milk. Side effects associated with cetirizine may be observed in breastfed infants. Therefore, until you have consulted your doctor, you should not take Cetirizine Genericon while you are breast-feeding.

Driving and ability to operate machinery

Caution: This medicinal product may impair the ability to react and drive.

In clinical studies, Cetirizine Genericon at the recommended dose did not cause any signs of impaired attention, alertness or ability to drive.
If you intend to participate in road traffic, work without a safe stop or operate machinery, you should not take more than the recommended dose. You should carefully monitor your reaction to the medicine.
If you are sensitive, you may notice that taking alcohol or other agents that depress the central nervous system at the same time further impairs your alertness and responsiveness.

Cetirizine Genericon contains lactose.
Please only take Cetirizine Genericon after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance.

Cetirizine Genericon contains sodium.
This medicine contains less than 1 mmol of sodium (23 mg) per tablet, i.e. it is almost "sodium-free".

How should the medicine be taken?

How to take Cetirizine Genericon?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Take Cetirizine Genericon unchewed with liquid. This can be done independently of meals, preferably in the evening.
The tablet can be divided into equal doses.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the recommended dose is:

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over:
1 film-coated tablet daily in the evening.

Children between 6 and 12 years:
- The recommended dose is: 5 mg twice daily as half a tablet twice daily.

Patients with kidney weakness:
Patients with moderate kidney weakness are recommended to take 5 mg once daily.If you have severe kidney disease, talk to your doctor or pharmacist who can adjust your dose accordingly.
If your child has severe kidney disease, talk to your doctor or pharmacist who can adjust the dose according to your child's needs.
If you feel that the effect of Cetirizine Genericon is too weak or too strong, please contact your doctor.

Do not change the dosage described in this leaflet on your own initiative.

Duration of use:
The duration of use depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms and is determined by your doctor.

If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days, you must consult a doctor in any case.

If you have taken more Cetirizine Genericon than you should
If you have taken more Cetirizine Genericon than you should, tell a doctor immediately.
Your doctor will then decide what action, if any, to take.
After an overdose, the side effects described below may occur with increased intensity. Adverse effects such as confusion, diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, malaise, pupillary dilation, pruritus, restlessness, sedation, drowsiness, dizziness, accelerated heartbeat, tremor and urinary retention have been reported.

If you forget to take Cetirizine Genericon
Do not take double the dose if you have forgotten to take it previously.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you notice. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time.

If you stop taking Cetirizine Genericon
Never stop taking it on your own as this may make your condition worse again. Rarely, pruritus (severe itching) and/or urticaria (hives) may occur if you stop taking Cetirizine Genericon.
Talk to your doctor before stopping treatment with Cetirizine Genericon.

What Cetirizine Genericon contains
The active substance is cetirizine dihydrochloride.
1 film-coated tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.

The other ingredients are:
Tablet core:
Lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, talc, maize starch.

Tablet coating:
Opadry white consisting of hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 4000 and sodium citrate.

What Cetirizine Genericon looks like and contents of the pack
Cetirizine Genericon 10 mg Film-coated Tablets are white, round film-coated tablets, domed on both sides, with "A" embossed on one side and a deep break notch on the other side.
Cetirizine Genericon is available in PVC/aluminium blister packs containing 10 and 30 film-coated tablets.
