Why the palm oil in Oatly products is not "bad":
Palm oil is currently one of the few vegetable oils that can be used to replace almost all the properties of animal fat. Oatly is well aware of the seriousness of the questionable cultivation of palm oil plantations. However, oil palms are a notably more effective plant for vegetable oil production and therefore Oatly sees in them the potential to fight world hunger. A boycott as a means to an end is therefore out of the question for them. Instead, they focus their efforts on direct dialogue with producers. Therefore, Oatly is also a member of the still young association RSPO (= Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil) and is actively involved in the development of new certification options for sustainably grown palm oil. Oatly is always in close contact with the producers for the procurement of its own palm oil requirements and guarantees that it only uses organically grown palm oil that can be traced back to the respective plantation.
